Councillor Karen Lewing: City councillor for Arboretum

Councillor Karen Lewing

Karen has lived in the Arboretum since 2003 with her husband and two children, who are both currently at university. She was elected in 2021 and is passionate about building a hopeful future based on a fairer, healthier society. As a councillor,  Karen takes practical action to make a difference in making the area a better place to live and work.

Karen is an architect and specialised in energy-efficient buildings. She has also worked as an active travel officer and studied Urban and Regional Planning.

As the previous Chair and now Vice Chair of the Environment Committee, Karen works hard to address the climate and biodiversity crises. She has pushed for food waste to be collected, campaigned for new real-time air pollution monitors, worked to be a plastic-free city and developed a city-wide electric vehicle charging plan. She is currently working to make Worcester a pesticide-free city, increase tree cover and flooding resilience and on the implementation of a city-wide biodiversity strategy.

Karen is currently deputy leader for the Green Party group at Worcester City Council.
