elena round: candidate for St. peter
I am a qualified solicitor, run my own business and head up a local disability charity. Outside this I love walking, cycling and following my football team when I have time! My husband and I have three children each one has required support. From life saving operations via the NHS; dealing with the many issues associated with complex physical and learning disabilities, and coping with autism. I therefore have first-hand experience of what does and doesn’t work in terms of our public services around health and wellbeing.
I have had to fight public authorities to help our children get the support they need and have had to sacrifice a successful career as a solicitor to do so. That experience has led me to work in the charity sector supporting other disabled people and to set up a disability forum in Worcester to campaign for disability rights to make Worcester an accessible place for all not just the able bodied.
Before moving to Worcester I was a parish councillor and found great satisfaction in serving my local area and using my professional training as a solicitor and experience of being a small business owner to get things done. My term as a councillor taught me the critical importance of listening to people and striving to represent them.
St Peter’s is already a wonderful place to live, but it will only remain so through effective representation at the council. New challenges are developing around social isolation particularly amongst the elderly, the lack of bus services alongside noise and pollution from our major roads. These will need clear leadership and a detailed understanding of residents’ views. I want to use my experience to ensure that St Peter’s continues to be a fantastic place to live for years to come.
