As Worcester endures a cold spell and the first snow of winter; the news of yet another energy price hike in January comes as a devastating blow.
For many the rising cost of heating homes isn’t just a financial strain – it’s a matter of life and death. Charities have warned that unaffordable energy bills could force people to keep their heating off during the coldest months with tragic consequences.
The government’s decision to scrap winter fuel payment for millions has already pushed 50.000 pensioners into poverty.
Now with temperatures dropping and bills soaring, it’s clear further inaction will leave many more at risk. This cannot go on.
Ministers must step up and prioritise people’s safety over the billion-pounds profits of energy companies. There are immediate solutions available.
Reinstating winter fuel payments and introducing targeted support for vulnerable households would make a tangible difference. Ensuring no one falls through the cracks this winter should be top priority.
As a community we have the power to demand change.
If enough of us challenge this latest price hike we can compel the government to act. People’s lives must come before corporate profits and beyond.
