Councillors Stand Up for Unity

Green Pary members at anti-racism protest in Worcester

After over a week of rioting by far-right groups and counter-protests across the country, Worcester Green Party’s City and County Councillors joined the ‘RALLY4UNITY – Worcester Rejects Fascism’ demonstration on Saturday afternoon. Organised by Worcester Trades Union Council, the rally brought many local leaders, groups and residents together to show solidarity with everyone affected by racism and anti-immigration rhetoric.

Ahead of the rally, Cllr Louis Stephen, Green Party Group Leader, said, “It’s at times like these that we need to come together to show a united front against rascism and hate. Immigration has been used as a political football for far too long. Over many years our culture and prosperity have benefited enormously from people coming to the UK. Our NHS would probably have fallen over without the very many people coming to work here.”

The demonstration passed off peacefully and was very well-attended, with the crowd stretching down the High Street.

Thankfully Worcester as yet remains unaffected by any outbreaks of violence.
